Why effective food distribution is critical right now
Effective food distribution to families in need is more important than ever before. COVID-19 has taken a toll on hundreds of thousands of families in Los Angeles County who are struggling to put food on the table. Prior to the pandemic, an estimated 1 in 5 Angelenos were facing food insecurity. Between April and May, more than 1 in 4 (955,466 households) experienced food insecurity.
Whether it’s due to not having a car, a grocery store nearby, or the means to purchase, families continue to face the long-term impacts of inadequate food access. In addition to diabetes and high blood pressure, food insecure families are at greater risk for obesity, depression, and heart disease — making visiting food pantries a high risk activity.
Why does food need to be delivered?
- Despite an availability of food pantries, many families are unable to reach them due to a lack of transportation, lack of time, and the risk of COVID-19 exposure.
How Good2Go Works
Good2Go allows you to volunteer on your time. With your own availability, you can sign up to deliver food from food pantries to the doors of families experiencing food insecurity.
You’ll receive an email the Friday before your assigned delivery (or deliveries)! We’ll include the address of the food bank you’ll be picking up food from, the addresses you’ll be dropping off food at, and instructions on how to alert the family you’ve helped.
With your help, Good2Go can help bring food to families who can need it.
Our future plans
For now, we’re only working with food pantries within a 5 mile radius from USC. We aim to continue forging partnerships with food pantries in other parts of LA County and beyond. As we continue to expand, we hope to offer additional volunteer delivery opportunities that align with your schedule!
We’ll also be adding more features that make it easier to find on the go delivery opportunities and make deliveries! Whether it’s choosing specific delivery opportunities in advance or receiving notifications when a delivery coincides with your schedule, we hope Good2Go makes it easy for you to do good on the go.
We’d love your open and honest feedback on our platform. Let us know if you have questions, feedback, or new ideas for us.
